Susan B. Yox, RN, MSN, EdD
Medscape Nurses
Editorial Director, Medscape Nurses (www.medscape.com/nurseshome). Sept. 1999
Prior Editor’s Position: Executive Editor, HMO Practice (multidisciplinary print journal)
Years as Editor: Since 1986
Years in INANE: Since 2004
Accomplishment: Beginning Medscape Nurses web-site. Medscape was originally a physician only site. We have almost a million RN members worldwide! A weekly newsletter goes to over 350,000. I also am proud of our recent success in working with ANCC to offer credits.
Best: The potential for providing a service to RNs worldwide, and the excitement of doing something unusual/cutting edge, fast-moving and highly visible.
Worst: The tedious work of fixing/formatting manuscripts that are sloppily prepared or poorly written. As a nurse editor in an organization that often focuses on physicians, I must continually remind everyone that there are other health care professionals besides physicians! Gets tiring...
3 words: Conscientious, attentive, pro-nursing
Strangest request: People often ask me to "please send" articles or Web resources to write a thesis or do their homework. I tell them how to do a search!
If not editor?: I think I will be a hospice nurse or volunteer when I retire.
Relax?: I take walks with my husband, read the New York Times, or visit with my two teenagers. (Sometimes the latter is not so relaxing...)
