MEDSURG Nursing: The Journal of Adult Health
Editor, MEDSURG Nursing: The Journal of Adult Health, December 2002
Prior Editor’s Position: Editor, NAON News (monthly member newsletter), 1995 - 2003
Years as Editor: Since 1995
Years in INANE: Since 1996
Accomplishment: Being chosen as a non-academic to edit a peer-reviewed journal
Best: Having hands-on involvement in the creation of a top-quality publication
Worst: Proofs seem to arrive just when I'm leaving for a meeting :)!
Amusing: This is not about editing as about editors, and it's a story from the 1998 INANE meeting in Chicago. Several Jannetti editors had gone to dinner at Navy Pier and were trying to catch a cab back to the Palmer House. As the cab crept through the traffic at the Pier, the driver growled at the editor in the front seat, "What are you looking at?" She was actually turned to talk to us in the back seat, but he got the wrong impression. When he turned on the overhead light, we could see gang markings on his face. The woman in the front seat was out the door in seconds, and the rest of us followed to catch another cab. This was a most unique bonding experience for this group of editors.
3 words: Detail-oriented former English teacher (OK, one more than three words)
Strangest request: It's not really a request, but an author insisted that there was no literature on lupus more current than the mid-1990s and she withdrew her manuscript when I politely insisted (as a certified orthopaedic nurse who has written about arthritic and connective tissue disorders) that there was.
If not editor?: Research
Relax?: A personal shopper; spending someone else's money to dress or decorate for that individual would be great fun!
