Margaret "Maggie" H. Kearney, PhD, RN, FAAN

Associate Editor, Research in Nursing & Health, Since 2011

Prior Editor’s Positions:

Assistant Editor, Research Review: Studies for Nursing Practice (newsletter) 1987-1989

Associate Editor, Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing (JOGNN), 2001-2008

Years as Editor: Since 2001

Years in INANE: attended several conferences

Other Position: Vice Provost & University Dean of Graduate Studies, University of Rochester, 2011-present

Accomplishment: Nurse editor research with Margaret Freda

Best: Shaping the quality of evidence in print and improving the skills and public image of nurses as writers.

Worst: Serving many bosses and juggling it among other full-time responsibilities

Amusing: In the verbatim data from 90 nurse editors for the study cited above, the prevalence of typos and poorly constructed statements was funny (yet painful)... even editors need editors.

3 words: Organized, observant, articulate

Strangest request: We frequently get requests to disregard the fact that they have not followed author guidelines.

If not editor?: Do more research. Read more fiction. Cook and garden.

Relax?: Stealing time for the last 3 activities above.
