What is the best thing about being an editor?
Writing editorials on issues in nursing practice and receiving feedback from subscribers meets my personal mission as to why I do this. Meeting subscribers at conferences and learning their opinions of the journals I work on gives me great satisfaction to go back to the office and fulfill the journal mission.
Having access to the latest advances in Nursing/Medical practice-guidelines, evidence-based information to pass on to readers. I'm always learning.
What is the worst thing about being an editor?
Corporate reorganizing and outsourcing
Tell an amusing story about editing.
When I came to LWW almost six years ago, I knew Nursing language-NPO, stat etc. but I didn't know publishing language and I would be in meetings where the "TOC" or the "map" or "runlist" were being discussed and have no idea?? And the first "deadline" I encountered I thought "ok" kind of like a "code blue" or emergency" in publishing only without the flatline!
Which three words would your colleagues use to describe you?
Organized, Creative, Positive
What is the strangest request a potential author has ever made of you?
A visiting editor-in-chief of another journal asked to use my office to get some work done-while I was still in it!
What would you like to do if you were not an editor?
Teach nursing students. Somehow, advocate for the profession of Nursing-by speaking or writing.
How do you relax?
Spend time with my family, travel, read, beach, golf, music, nature…
