INANE: International Academy of Nursing Editors

INANE is an international collaborative – a collective of nursing editors and publishers focused on meeting the practice, research and education needs of the nursing profession. Our primary mission is to promote best practices in publishing and high standards in the nursing literature. We provide resources to assist nursing editors and publishers in reaching high standards and best practices in the publishing of nursing journals, books, and Web-based literature. We encourage nursing editors and publishers to use our email list, blogs and social networking sites to promote collaboration in meeting our goals.

The annual conference is held in July or August each year. At least every third year we hold our conference in a location other than North America. Nursing editors and publishers from around the world are welcome to attend!

INANE/NAHRS Survey for editors of nursing journals

The survey is NOW AVAILABLE -- please click here to participate!

The survey will be available until we hear from all in consideration for the forthcoming NAHRS Core List of Nursing Journals. There will also be an INANE/NAHRS list for all who reply. Survey data are tabulated by specific journal title so make sure your journal is represented by completing the survey.

This collaborative survey arose from a discussion at the recent INANE business meeting in which a representative of the NAHRS mentioned the survey they were doing again. An editor commented how nursing editors were constantly bombarded for requests to complete surveys and if we did our own survey & posted to our website, we could refer future survey requesters to data from our survey on our site. This started the collaborative effort for a joint survey.

Suzanne Smith led the INANE effort with help from 2 editors, Nancy Girard from the USA & Stephen O'Connor from The Netherlands, and consultation with Peggy Chinn. We and NAHRS members (Peg Allen, Pam Sherwill-Navarro, and Paul Blobaum) developed the final version of the survey.

While the survey data will not answer all the questions authors & survey takers will ask you, it can be a first referral to those people to first get data about our individual journals from the survey data summary.

FYI, INTRO to the survey

The Nursing and Allied Health Resource section of the Medical Library Association (NAHRS) and the International Academy of Nursing Editors (INANE) are collaborating to survey editors of journals in which nurses publish. The purpose of this survey is to gather information that will assist prospective authors to select appropriate journals to submit their manuscripts. The results of the survey will be made available on the NAHRS and INANE websites.

This survey is part of a larger NAHRS journal project to create a list of nursing journals that contains: 1)information about the databases that index each journal; 2) availability of full text; 3) if citations are tracked by CINAHL, Scopus, or Web of Science; 4) percentage of research; 5) the journal URL; 6) writing style of the journal; and 7) other useful descriptive information. NAHRS envisions that this product will provide valuable information for: librarians, including decisions on subscriptions and database licensing; authors; editors; and journal publishers. Your input will be very valuable for the success of this project. The journal list will be published on the NAHRS website, http://nahrs.mlanet.org/ with a link from the INANE site. We anticipate that it will be available by early 2010. Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or comments. NAHRS Journal List for Nursing & Allied Health Subcommittee co-chairs Pamela Sherwill-Navarro, MLS, AHIP, Margaret (Peg) Allen, , INANE committee chair Dr. Suzanne Smith.
